The Great Grand Tree

Writer: Sine Pleure PlumeSine Pleure Plume

Once I saw a great grand tree,

Its branches stemmed out to reach the sky,

Its roots draw deep in the depths of the earth,

Its sweet ripe gems taste quite heavenly.

Although the juices hold venomous truth,

Temptations draw near in the form of crawling beasts.

I was indeed once a part of you,

yet broken free with the will to change our destiny.

In truth of what I believe,

if it's a choice would you rather be a corpse than fall in misery with me?

if it's the latter then what a fool you are to be

But fools sought dreams, do you?

Life's a battlefield of roses and thorns

a well with endless loops of maybes

What are the chances of two to meet?

A nonsensical query ought to be forgotten like a dot that stops completely still.

I fathom in wonder if I were a spectacle then I would lie closely as an ant

Small but quite courageous, hopeful and kind

yet one life is all I have like leaves in autumn I'll be blown by the wind and that would be a beautiful but tragic end.

but I am not an ant.

nor a corpse.

nor a crawling beast.

I am a tree, vast and wide,

useful and with pride.

I am a tree seasoned with warmth and snow,

years full of joy and sorrow.

I am a tree rooted with scars in time, shattered but I arise.

I am that great grand tree,

but I'm still not enough to shade away from the hot scorching sun

nor the drifting chimes of a ticking clock.

Before it reaches its final breath,

Open a page and start with one.

And so a tale as old as mine,

How will it end this time?

N/A: This poem was written as a response to one of my pen pals in slowly app. I believe this was early January of the year 2024. He greeted me with such a creative piece himself, so I felt troubled on how to start mine since I've never written a piece for a long time since last year. Update though, the connection did not last, it was my fault for not replying. I don't want to socialize virtually any more ever since one friend I've made suddenly deactivated and left me on read. Such a waste of time indeed.
